FAQ’s

  • Where is the shop located?

The Home Shop is located within my home in Amherstview Ontario. The exact address is provided when you book your shopping appointment. In-person shopping appointments take place at the Home Shop.

The shop also has 2 pick-up points across Kingston. At the Home Shop in the west, and a pick-up point in Kingston’s east end thanks to a partnership with mama-owned small business Chew Me Baby.

  • Where do the clothes you carry come from?

I purchase lots from local mothers and also accept donations (thank you!). All pieces are scooped directly out of the closets of local mothers to be cycled from one local mama to another. Pretty cool, eh?!

The shop owner, Anna, personally examines and curates each and every piece and offers mothers a fair price for their beloved items.

Should you be interested in donating or selling your lot, please visit the Sell & Donate page.

  • Can I shop in person and try things on?

    Yes! That’s absolutely encouraged.

    You can try-on by appointment
at the Home Shop by contacting Anna.

Most mamas spend 1-1.5 hours browsing and trying on amongst the largest local selection of maternity and nursing clothing in the area.

Not your first baby? A full playroom is available steps from the clothing, and nursing, potty breaks, and diaper changes are absolutely welcome if needed!

  • What can I expect when I come?

I’ll meet you at my front door and walk you downstairs to the shop, set up in what used to just be my home office.

You’ll walk past my rec room and playroom, where your little one is welcome to play, or your kids could watch a show while you browse.

I’ll quickly show you how the shop is organized and help you narrow in on anything you particularly need, and then you have the room to yourself! I’m happy to help or entirely leave you alone, whatever makes you feel most comfortable. I usually hang out in the rec room just outside the shop door, so you can just give me a holler.

If you’d like to see a peek, head to the See The Shop page.

  • How do I book an appointment to come to the shop?

Send along a message via Instagram or Facebook Messenger and I will get back to you to set up a time. You can also use email or the get-in-touch form if you like.

  • Can I bring along my baby/child?

    Absolutely!

There is a full playroom available for your use steps from the shop door, and I, being a former educator and now mom of two, am happy to help keep your kiddo busy while you browse.

Whether you’re coming by with a baby, toddler, or the whole gang, all are welcome!

  • Do you have any pets in your home shop?

No. No pets live at our house unless you count my toddlers who sometimes act like animals!

Our family cat has been rehomed to live with my mother at her place since things were a little too busy for her here (two boys 4 and under weren’t her vibe).

  • What payment do you accept in-person?

Cash or e-transfer is accepted at the time of purchase if you are shopping in person.

  • What condition are the clothes in? Are they laundered?

Items carried and sold in the shop are in impeccable condition and often are new with tags! If it’s not brand new, it’s laundered, dried, and steamed to ensure maximum cleanliness.

Items that are slightly worn, discoloured, or stained are still accepted by donation and will be included in the $5 bin for your perusal when you visit!

  • What's the price point?

The shop strives to price pieces as affordable as possible while offering moms who sell their lots as much as possible, all while maintaining non-profit donation relationships. You’ll find items available for as little as $5. In general, pieces range from $10-$80 in price.

  • What are the $5 Bins?

The $5 bins are physical bins here in the shop that house items that are just $5! They are sorted by size for in-person rummaging!

Why this price? These items were donated to the shop, aren’t quite suitable for a pregnant or nursing body, and/or may have a slight stain, hole, or wear. But, they still have plenty of life left in them.

These items will not be posted on the website or on social media, but you’re welcome to rummage and choose what you like when you shop in person.

  • Can I use your washroom when I visit?

Yep! With a mama or 2 running this shop, you are welcome to use the washroom located steps from the clothing should the tiny human you are growing decide to begin crushing your bladder during your appointment!

  • Can I nurse or change my baby while there?

    Totally fine!

Many mamas, including the owner, have nursed babies here, with lots of seating options available and a diaper genie on site.

  • Is your shop accessible?

Home Shop headquarters is not accessible as there are stairs as you enter and stairs that will lead you downstairs to the shop door.

Should you need accommodation please send a message.

  • How do I sell/donate my clothing to you?

If you have maternity or nursing clothing that you no longer need, the shop would be thrilled to ensure your items get rehomed to a fellow mama!

Donations help to keep costs down and keep the $5 bins of items stacked. The shop also works with multiple local non-profits to ensure donations get to moms in need. If you would like to donate, just send along a message via social media or get in touch. For selling, please fill out the form on the “Sell & Donate” page. You’ll find all the details about donating and selling there.

  • Can you help me shop and style items?

Yes! That’s music to my ears!

I am formally a published fashion stylist and I remember being a first-time mom and having no idea how to dress my growing body.

I am happy to help you figure out what you may need and put outfits together with you if you like. Just ask!

  • Does the shop sell/consign other baby/kids items?

It used to, but no longer.

The shop used to carry baby and toddler clothing as well as a few secondhand baby items. But, in the interest of space and demand, the shop now only houses adult clothing.

  • Will you resell/consign my baby/toddler clothing and items?

No, unfortunately, due to lack of space the shop no longer resells secondhand kid’s items.

The demand has been for a dedicated maternity and nursing shop in our area, as we have plenty of amazing kids consigners already, such as Once Upon a Child, @canadiansavingmom.consignment, and Simply New to You.

  • Who runs this shop anyway?
